Firmware Update Instructions

Note: These instructions apply to devices running firmware version 1.0.1 or later. You can check your firmware version in Settings > About.

If your device is running version 1.0 (displayed in Settings > About), it requires a different update procedure — please message an administrator on LeShuffler community for assistance.

What You Need

  • A Windows PC. Macs are not supported — Apple's USB handling is incompatible with the update process.
    — Windows 11 is what we test on. Windows 10 is untested, though some users report success with it.
  • A USB port that can supply about 7W — a USB-C port, or a USB-A port that supports BC 1.2 (see Troubleshooting for details)
  • USB-C to USB-C cable (included with LeShuffler)

Step 1 — Download

Download the update package:

Extract the zip file. It contains two files:

  • LeShuffler_Updater.exe — the update tool
  • LeShuffler.sfu — the firmware file

Step 2 — Connect

Connect LeShuffler to a USB-C port on your computer using the USB cable. USB-C ports provide 15W, well above the 7W LeShuffler needs in update mode.

Step 3 — Enter Update Mode

With the device OFF, hold both the ✓ (Enter) and ✗ (Escape) buttons simultaneously, then turn on the power switch. Keep holding for about 2 seconds.

On devices with bootloader version 3.1 or later, an update screen appears on the display. On earlier bootloader versions, the screen remains black.

You will hear 3 short beeps followed by 1 long beep confirming update mode.

You can check your bootloader version in Settings > About.

Step 4 — Run the Updater

On your computer, run LeShuffler_Updater.exe.

The updater will detect LeShuffler and the firmware file automatically. Follow the on-screen prompts to start the update (press ENTER when asked for confirmation).

Step 5 — Wait for Completion

Do not disconnect the USB cable during the update.

On devices with bootloader version 3.1 or later, the update progress is shown on the display. On earlier bootloader versions, the screen remains black during the update.

When complete, LeShuffler restarts automatically with the new firmware.

Step 6 — Power Up

Turn off LeShuffler. Disconnect the USB cable from the computer and connect LeShuffler to the provided power supply for normal operation.

Troubleshooting

“Device not detected”

  • Make sure LeShuffler is in update mode (Step 3) before running the updater.
  • Try a different USB port on your computer.
  • Try a different USB cable.

“Update failed” or transfer interrupted

  • LeShuffler is safe — the previous firmware is preserved until a new update completes successfully.
  • Power off the device, then repeat from Step 3.

Machine reboots or update is interrupted (power instability)

  • Try a different USB port — power capability varies between ports, even on the same computer.
  • Use a USB-C port (recommended). If using USB-A, make sure the port supports BC 1.2 (7.5W), or use a powered USB hub.
  • Try a shorter USB-C to USB-C cable with good power rating (at least 20W) and certified for data transfer. The 2m cable included with LeShuffler was chosen for use with the 15V power supply and may cause voltage drop on 5V USB. This 30cm model works well (EU link — US link).
  • If none of the above helps, use a powered USB hub — one with its own mains adapter. Choose a model whose downstream ports support BC 1.2 charging: a plain data hub stays capped at 2.5W/4.5W however large its power adapter, so results vary between hubs.

In update mode, LeShuffler draws about 7W (5V × 1.4A). Almost all USB-C ports supply 7.5W (5V × 1.5A) or 15W (5V × 3A), so a USB-C port is the reliable choice; a few announce only 4.5W, and if the machine will not stay on, treat that port as unsuitable and use another. Standard USB-A 2.0 ports deliver only 2.5W and USB-A 3.0 ports only 4.5W — neither is enough. USB-A ports that support BC 1.2 can deliver 7.5W, which is sufficient; look for a small battery or lightning symbol beside the port.
To check the power rating of your USB ports on Windows: open Device Manager → Universal Serial Bus controllers → right-click your USB port → Properties → Details tab → look for “USB port power capability” or check your laptop’s specifications.

Machine lights up for a moment, then switches off

  • The port is not supplying enough power. Move to a USB-C port, a USB-A charging port (BC 1.2), or a powered hub with charging-capable ports.
  • In normal play, always power LeShuffler from its own USB-C wall charger — never from a computer port or a hub. A hub is for updates only.

How do I make sure my computer is compatible for updates?

  • Check the port, not the specification. Processor, memory and disk make no difference to an update: any recent i5 with 8GB and an SSD is ample, and a second-hand machine is fine.
  • Business models generally provide a more stable experience, because they can handle a broader range of peripherals than consumer laptops. Models such as the Dell Latitude, Lenovo ThinkPad T/P/X1, Dell Precision, HP ZBook and HP EliteBook fall in this category.
  • This is only a guideline. The port is what decides: a consumer laptop with a proper USB-C port will usually work fine.

Device does not restart after update

  • Turn the power switch off and back on.
  • The new firmware version is shown in Settings > About.
